What are the charges and masses of particles?
The charges and masses of the fundamental particles are as follows:
- Electron: charge = -1.602176634 x 10^-19 coulombs, mass = 9.10938356 x 10^-31 kilograms
- Proton: charge = 1.602176634 x 10^-19 coulombs, mass = 1.672621898 x 10^-27 kilograms
- Neutron: charge = 0 coulombs, mass = 1.674927471 x 10^-27 kilograms
- Positron: charge = 1.602176634 x 10^-19 coulombs, mass = 9.10938356 x 10^-31 kilograms
Note that the positron has the same charge as the electron but has opposite charge. The electron and the positron are known as leptons, while protons and neutrons are known as baryons.
